And the winner of the 2008 Voter Cups are… PDF Print E-mail

Inver Hills
On October 14 the voter registration deadline in Minnesota passed. Our students have done a stunning job of registering both their fellow students and community members. Thanks to your amazing efforts on campus we have more than doubled our goal of 4,000 voter contacts.

MSCSA was very excited to have Minnesota Secretary of State Mark Ritchie to present the MSCSA Voter Cups to the winning campuses.

  • One award was given to the campus with the largest total of voter contacts.
  • The other cup was awarded to the campus with the highest percentage of their FYE contacted.

Thanks to your efforts MSCSA registered 4,329 new student voters and 4,006 students who were already registered, pledged to vote.  This gave us a total of 8335 student voter contacts.

Here are our winning campuses.

Highest Number or Contacts:

  1. Inver Hills Community College 1432
  2. Century College 1225
  3. Normandale Community College 1188

Highest Percentage of FYE Contacted:

  1. Anoka Technical College-58.6%
  2. Ridgewater College-Hutchinson-46.0%
  3. Inver Hills Community College-44.5%

Beyond these numbers a couple other campuses deserve mention for their engagement efforts.

MSCTC-Detroit Lakes has held 3 candidate forums and has worked with several community organizations to keep the campus child care center open for parents who wished to attend the event.

Vermillion Community College registered 10% of the population of the city of Ely.  Campuses have done many great and amazing things that we will work to chronicle as the election approaches. Keep checking the MSCSA Civic Engagement page for updates during the election. Thank you all for you hard work and dedication to this project.

Fall 08 Issue of the Students' View PDF Print E-mail

By Nick Cooley, MSCSA Public Relations Coordinator
We would like to thank all of the students who submitted articles for the Students’ View this quarter. We’re always impressed by the incredible amount of talent we have within our organization, and it’s wonderful to hear about all of the exciting things happening at community and technical college campuses. Between get-out-the-vote activities, new cabinet members and students working on campaigns, this issue has been very fun to put together. We’d like to take this opportunity to encourage everyone, especially journalism students or those working for their school newspapers, to drop us a line and let us know what’s going on at your campuses. Send your articles to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .

We also encourage you to write articles for your local newspapers informing them about your get-out-the-vote activities. If you’ve registered 500 voters on your campus, you need to let the community know! This way, politicians in your community will realize that you can be an important ally.

Continue the great work you’ve all been doing, and we look forward to reading about it in the next Students’ View!
