What position(s) did you hold while in MSCSA?
I was elected treasurer of the association. Then very soon after that, I was named to the MnSCU Board of Trustees, which was an opportunity I just couldn’t pass up, so I stepped down as the treasurer. As a student trustee, I tried to stay as involved as possible with MSCSA and attended several conferences to stay engaged and speak to the group.

What drew you to become involved in MSCSA?
I saw MSCSA as a platform to learn about leadership and governance.

What did you learn from your experience in MSCSA that positioned you for future success?
My involvement with MSCSA helped me understand the important role played by community and technical colleges in the development of society. Many of the friends I made through MSCSA had non-traditional backgrounds and were in the midst of a career change or educational re-start. My biggest takeaway from MSCSA that has positioned me for future success is to have conversations with everyone. It’s fascinating to see the world from their perspective.

What advice would you like to share with current/future members?
Do what makes you happy. Life is amazing when you enjoy it.

Proudest MSCSA moment?
I really enjoyed working with a bunch of great emerging leaders.

What leaders inspire you?
Richard Branson, Ghandi, & Bono.
