By Rachel Kelson MSCSA Treasurer & Inver Hills Community College Student The glitz, the glamour, the semi-famous people everywhere! You might think I’m talking about the Golden Globe awards, but I’m not. Actually I’m talking about the third annual Minnesota State College Student Association (MSCSA) Leadership Scholarship Dinner and Silent Auction, on January 8, 2010 at 5:30 pm at the Hilton in Bloomington, MN.
Every year the MSCSA recognizes students from across the state for exceptional leadership ability. These students volunteer in their community, serve on their student senates, and strive to make the communities they live in a better place.
Scholarship recipients come from all walks of life. Some are non-traditional students, some are more traditional. Some of them are first generation college students and other have families to support. Some work while they are going to school. What they all share is a commitment to making their communities better.
The dinner is a lovely event. As one might expect of the Hilton, the food is delicious. Past keynote speakers include state representatives, college presidents and higher education-related speakers. It’s a great time to socialize, network, and bid on some great items in the silent auction. Items are donated by local businesses, college campuses, and individuals. Past items have included tickets to Minnesota Wild game, free stays at hotels, gift baskets, student art, and so much more. And it is all for a great cause.
